II Modular Training in Laboratory Animal Science
7-18th January 2019, Coimbra

The Coimbra Institute for Clinical and Biomedical Research (iCBR) and the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC) are pleased to host the "II Modular Laboratory Animal Course" from January 7th to 18th, 2019.

The course follows the guidelines of the European Commission regarding training in laboratory animal sciences. This approach recognizes that training should be correlated with needs. Participants can select the functions or modules that meet their requirements.

The course is mainly intended for applicants who wish to apply for National Accreditation (Directorate General of Food and Veterinary - DGAV), but also to those who wish to acquire basic theoretical knowledge on the area of Laboratory Animal Sciences.

The organization invites the entire scientific community to attend the central modules (1 to 6.1, except 3.2), free of charge, to update knowledge and practices in Science in Laboratory Animals.

Course rules

Assiduity
Positive evaluation on the desired function (or specific modules, such as Portuguese Legislation and Special Skills) is dependent on the frequency of 85% and 100% of the time of the theoretical and practical classes of each module, respectively.

Evaluation method
Training certification of the desired function (or specific modules, such as Portuguese Legislation and Special Skills) is dependent on positive evaluation in all modules.

1) The theoretical evaluation is done through written test. In case of fail, the student is required to complete a new test in the appeal phase.

2) The practical evaluation is done during the practical classes. Positive evaluation is achieved if the student reaches all previously established and communicated objectives. In case of fail the student can request a new test, after payment of 30% of the value of the required function/modules, on a later date to be agreed.

3) The frequency of the practical classes of modules 20-22 will only be allowed, after positive evaluation on the written test of modules 20-22, to students holding a function a) training level, acquired before or during the course time frame.

4) Module 11 will be evaluated through an oral presentation, during the class, and a written paper to be delivered up to 10 working days after class. Students will have 5 working days after evaluation to request, by email, the viewing of the written paper corrections.

5) The final evaluation will be communicated to the students within 21 working days after the end of the course. The students will then have 5 working days to contest the evaluation. The request must be made to the organization´s email.

Registrations

1) There will be no limit on the number of participants for theoretical evaluation.

2) Practical training is limited to 20 participants for modules 3.2, 7, 8 and 6.2 and 10 participants for modules 20-22 during the course time frame. Other participants with positive theoretical evaluation will receive practical training at later time points (6-8 March or 11-12 April 2019).
