Apply now to the 10th Edition of the
PhD Programme in Experimental Biology and Biomedicine (PDBEB)
12 fellowships available
Deadline for applications: April 29th 2011
Begin of the Programme: September 2011

PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGES IN THE APPLICATION PROCESS INTRODUCED THIS YEAR DUE TO NEW UNIVERSITY GUIDELINES
Admission requirements
1. Applicants must hold a BSci degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Medicine, Pharmacy, Chemistry, Physics, or equivalent degree in other non-biological area (pre-Bolonha), or an MSci degree in such areas (post-Bolonha). Courses are taught in English, ability to use English fluently as a working language is thus requested.
2. Research work will have to directly involve Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC) groups and targeted areas of intervention for the Center, as well as foreign groups in the CNC network. It is not possible for students to work primarily in another Portuguese Institute. All projects will have to be carried out with a CNC PI researcher, and must be approved by the Programme Committee. Knowledge of both the Center and its areas will be paramount to a successful application/interview. Due to scholarship specifications non-Portuguese nationals must conduct all their work at the CNC. Also, all foreign candidates will have to possess a Portuguese Residency Permit at the date the Programme begins.
3. A Committee of scientists participating in the PhD Programme will evaluate all applications. The selection of applicants will be based on their academic qualifications (CV) + motivation letter+ referees' evaluations (30%) and interviews (70%). The process is meant to select students specifically for the PDBEB Programme, not for a PhD scholarship in general, and quantifiers such as grade averages are not used as absolutes for selection.
4. Students selected receive a four-year scholarship from F.C.T. (Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, Webpage: http://www.fct.mctes.pt, by following the http://www.fct.mctes.pt/pt/apoios/bolsas/estatutodobolseiro (Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação Científica).
